“Therefore if anyone is in Christ He is a new creation. The old has passed away. Behold, the new has come” (2 Corinthians 5:17).

When God created the world He said it was “good” or “very good” seven times. In the Bible, seven is the number of perfection. The Hebrew word for good is ‘tov’ which means in harmony with God’s plan, or able to fulfill God’s intended purpose.

Although goodness and harmony are common in the world today. Evil, chaos, and grief also reign through natural disasters, death, disease, crime and wars.

So what happened? Why is there so much strife in our world? Why do so many of us struggle to overcome difficulties and challenges in life?

Although God created us for the purpose of fellowship and harmony with Him. He also gave us free will to fulfill that purpose under his leadership…or not. We see in Genesis that the first humans choose to disobey God, which is sin (Genesis 3).

Sin is not in harmony with God‘s plan. Although we were created perfect, human sin brought death into our world which takes on many destructive forms. It is sin that knocked us out of harmony with our creator.

The amazing thing is, God had a plan to save us through His Son Jesus Christ who died on the cross for our sins. The prophecies concerning the Messiah begin as early as Genesis 3:15. They continue throughout the Old Testament until the ultimate fulfillment with the New.

In Christ we can come back into harmony with God. Through Him and only Him we are a “new creation,” free from death (spiritual death) and able to fulfill God’s intended purpose for us.

The impact of sin will continue to plague our world and in fact will even escalate until Jesus comes back to do away with evil once and for all.

But…the great news is that while we are still alive, it is never too late to come back into harmony with God through Christ.
