In this life, hope is a moving target. Our hopes change as we change.
There are times when our hopes are fulfilled and seasons when they’re dashed. Even in the midst of grieving their loss new hope springs forth; and sometimes even those hopes are dashed too. And unfortunately so much of what we hope for depends on the will of others.
When it seems like so much is left to chance or another’s choices, why do we continue to hope at all?
I believe it’s because God put hope in our hearts to draw us to Him and embrace a hope that’s eternal: not shallow, short-term, or circumstantial.
“So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us” (Hebrews 6:18).
True hope based on God is stabilizing; not blown away by ‘winds of change’ or steered of course by earthly desires. When all of those deteriorate, Gods anchor still holds: perfect, consistent, reliable.
“This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary. Jesus has already gone in there for us. He has become our eternal High Priest in the order of Melchizedek” (Hebrews 6:19 & 20).
We can trust in this hope because it came by way of the One who defeated death and became a high priest based on the “power of an endless life” (Hebrews 7:16).
