After the recent tragedy in San Bernardino The New York Daily News touted the headline “God Isn’t Fixing This.”
When God sent His only son Jesus Christ as a sacrifice He ‘fixed’ the problem of sin through forgiveness, atonement, and eternal life for those who call on His name. Furthermore, Jesus said: “In this world you will have much trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33) – The world that was thrown into chaos by human sin.
And even when we try to ban Him from our lives, schools, and communities and then slander Him when things go wrong; He still graciously opens His heart to us time and time again.
And while this may not make tragedies and hardships any easier, ridiculing God and attacking those who call on His name that He would comfort brothers and sisters suffering around the world is an even bigger tragedy.

What astounds me is how believers separate God from bad things. “God protected me from…..” or “God saved me from….” But the truth of the matter is, according to this particular religion, God created everything, knows everything, and is all powerful. So, bottom line, God CREATED all this bad stuff and allows it to exist. He was aware that it all would happen before he even created Earth. He is 100% responsible for EVERYTHING….period. Yet he continues to allow unimaginable suffering, pain and horror to happen to everyone, including babies and unborn babies. Followers of other gods are incredibly successful in perpetrating murder and terror on his own followers. If Satan exists (and he doesn’t) then your God created him with full knowledge ahead of time, of everything Satan would do. And yet he allows this evil entity (that HE created) to continue to exist. Your God is either a maniacal psychopath….or he doesn’t exist.
Did any victim pray for protection, health or safety before hand? How did that work out for them?

We were not promised safety and protection in this world as I mentioned in the article. In fact if you ever decide to read the bible (God describes Himself and his viewpoint very well) You’ll also see that believers are not separated from bad things ever. Quite the opposite really. In fact Christ said to live for Him would also mean to suffer with Him. I enjoyed the below article which I think expresses our viewpoint very well.

I didn’t believe in God for a very long time. I decided to read His word and that’s what changed everything for me. And yes, God did save me from a lot of things…unfortunately He didn’t spare the tragic loss of many of my family members. However, I never question His existence because after I accepted Christ so many things changed in my life and in my heart. I feel His presence where I didn’t before and I see His work in my life and the lives of others. It’s really an internal peace and connection with Him that doesn’t come from the outside world. If I looked there for what I needed I would be a very angry person…and I was for a long time. If I were to die today I would count it a blessing to be with Christ for eternity. If God took another loved one from me in a tragic way (and He already has) I would be sad, angry and all of those things. However, I won’t argue with God. I will defend Him as long as I live (I’d rather die and find out I was wrong than the other way around)

Hi Jodie, I have indeed read the Bible, and for a large portion of my life I was a Christian who felt all the things you describe feeling. Consider this just for a moment….what if there was actually no God, but Christianity (and other religions) existed anyway. Do you think that pointing out thousands of obvious discrepancies would make all of them say, “Wow, good point. I will stop believing.” ? No, what happens is they will go through whatever mental gymnastics necessary to continue believing…no matter how much reasoning and logic is put in front of them. For example, As a parent, you would not allow your own children to suffer even one small fraction of the amount that God allows his children to suffer. So is your love stronger than God’s? The obvious answer would be yes, but you will say no and come up with a reason why…in order to keep on believing…because it makes you happy. You will probably say that we can’t comprehend God’s reasoning. It just makes me sad that people believe in a man-made god and justify the fact that if he is real, he created and allows evil, pain, torture and indescribable suffering. God doesn’t save you from bad stuff. God IS the bad stuff. He created it. Didn’t he?
