Jeff’s Redmond’s story is featured on the latest episode of the Genuine Life Recovery Podcast. His story is one of redemption, a journey from the depths of addiction to the heights of faith and purpose. Born into a Catholic family, Jeff’s early years were marked by a semblance of religious upbringing, but it wasn’t until later in life that he truly encountered the transformative power of faith.
Growing up as the oldest of five siblings, Jeff experienced the typical rites of passage within the Catholic Church – communion, confirmation, and the like. However, his spiritual journey took a detour as he entered adulthood and ventured into the world of business and politics.
At the age of 14, Jeff entered the restaurant business, laying the foundation for what he believed would be his lifelong vocation. Along the way, he dabbled in recreational drug use, experimenting with substances like alcohol, marijuana, and even LSD. Despite these indulgences, Jeff continued to navigate the complexities of life, marrying his wife Debbie and starting a family.
By 1976, Jeff and Debbie had established themselves as restaurateurs, owning a franchise in Arcata, California. Their success seemed assured until the collapse of the timber industry in the early 1990s dealt a devastating blow to their business ventures. Forced to confront the harsh reality of failure, Jeff turned to alcohol as a coping mechanism, sinking deeper into addiction with each passing day.
Despite his outward appearance of success – serving as a councilman and even mayor of his city – Jeff’s personal life was unraveling. He struggled to reconcile his desire for spiritual fulfillment with his dependence on alcohol. It wasn’t until the winter of 1994 that Jeff reached a pivotal moment in his journey.
Attending a church rally with his wife, Jeff found himself confronted with a message that spoke directly to his heart. Overwhelmed by emotion, he initially resisted the call to surrender to Christ, but eventually relented, finding solace and redemption at the altar.
From that moment forward, Jeff embarked on a path of recovery and spiritual renewal. Embracing the principles of Celebrate Recovery, a 12-step program rooted in biblical teachings, Jeff found community and support as he confronted his past and embraced his newfound faith.
His journey wasn’t without its challenges. Jeff faced the pain of confronting childhood trauma, including sexual abuse, and grappled with the consequences of his addiction on his relationships and his own sense of self-worth. Yet through it all, he remained steadfast in his commitment to personal growth and healing.
In 2001, Jeff took a pivotal step forward, attending a Celebrate Recovery conference at Saddleback Church. Inspired by the program’s emphasis on healing and transformation, Jeff felt called to bring this ministry to his own community. Thus, CR Bayside was born, offering hope and support to individuals struggling with addiction and other life challenges.
Jeff’s story serves as a testament to the power of faith and resilience in the face of adversity. Through his journey from addiction to redemption, he has not only found healing and purpose but has also become a beacon of hope for others seeking a path to recovery. Today, Jeff continues to serve as a leader and advocate within the Celebrate Recovery community, sharing his story of transformation and offering guidance to those in need.
Jeff’s story reminds us that no matter how lost we may feel, redemption is always within reach. By embracing faith, confronting our past, and reaching out for support, we can find healing and restoration.
