Jodie StevensJesus said … “the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32)

When we conceal our sin, shame, and addictions we are living in deceit and “stumbling through the darkness.” (John 8:12)

Shame perpetuates our troubles and causes us to hide behind lies, creating a self-defeating circle. We think: “No one could ever love me if they knew, so I’ll keep hiding behind a lie.”

That deception is what prolongs our problems.

Jesus has already forgiven us. He has “set us free.” It’s when we confess to safe people who will accept us unconditionally that shame begins to lose its power over us.

Most vile creatures like cockroaches (and sin) live in the dark. When you shine a light on them they run for cover and you’re no longer a ‘slave to them.’

That’s one of the primary reasons support groups exist. So you can “confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed” (James 5:16).

Being able to speak the truth in a safe environment leads to healing. Healing leads to freedom. Quite literally “the truth will set you free.”
